Notebook and Pen

I am an experienced teacher and tutor, as well as a writer, and my flash fiction and short stories have won first prize in many competitions and those that haven't won have often been shortlisted and gone on to be published. I have an MA in Creative Writing (Distinction) and have taught writing workshops and tutored individuals. I have also been a first reader for several competitions and now help run the Bath Short Story award.

I will read your story carefully and respectfully and provide an objective critique. I will always think about what you are trying to achieve and assess your story accordingly. I also check for typos (ex English teacher!) and if I can recommend suitable places for you to send your story, I will.

I offer critiques of flash fiction up to 1000 words, short stories up to 3,500 and 5000 words, and will now be extending the service to cover longer fiction (stories up to 10,000 words, novels, novellas and novellas-in-flash up to 40,000 and novels up to 90,000 plus). I am also available to work one on one with a small number of writers on both short and long term projects. Do get in touch if you are interested in these opportunities or have any other queries. Use the links below for work under 5,000 words and email me to discuss longer work.
